Mexico trip wouldn’t be complete without visiting Xochimilco. Also known as Venice of Mexico, Xochimilco has a series of canals and colorful gondola rides. Here you can float down the canals on these traditional boats called trajinera. Along the way, you will pass all sorts of vendors selling food and drinks. Mariachi bands will also pull up to your boat and serenade you, making the atmosphere fun and festive. People visit Xochimilco to celebrate their birthdays or anniversaries so the boats are filled with happy folks singing and dancing. Sunday is definitely a fun day at Xochimilco. It is the best day to go as long as you make sure to plan on spending a couple of hours there. There is also a nice market that is full of handcrafted goods and artisanal items. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to pick some stuff out for my home.
