Pretty in polka dot

As you might’ve guessed by now, I love polka dots! Polka dots are retro, feminine and a really fun print to play with. Polka dots never go out of style, a classic pattern that fits most people. A couple of options to mix polka dots into your outfits include:

  • High waisted denim shorts with halter strap top if you want to go into pinup girl mode.
  • Midi length black, cap sleeve dress with peplum hem. Think about Dolce and Gabbana, and some of the classic styles worn by Monica Bellucci. Not only polka dots can be cute and fun, but they can also look elegant and sexy when paired with classic red lips.

This polka dot blouse as well as this skirt was originally my mother’s. I completed this outfit by adding a blazer to achieve a work appropriate look.

I want to shine a light on a style expression that has no borders and I hope it makes your day brighter.

Birthday Special: Up, up & away

I’m not real big on birthdays which is why, each year, I try to do something low key. This year especially, I just wanted to give myself a day to relax and rewind.
This year has been about self-analysis. I have learned a lot, and still I continue to grow and mature as a person. I appreciate everything life has chosen to give me, both good and bad. I have discovered the most valuable lessons in life during this time. It shapes me to be someone I have a hard time recognizing sometimes, but it remains to be a part of this transition. I left my country at the age of 18, right after high school. Leaving my childhood, my family, friends and everything behind was one of the hardest things I had to go through, but I was excited and eager to start a new chapter. I have successfully completed my studies and graduated from Texas Women’s University in 2013.
On this day, I wanted to capture an image of what became my second home, Dallas Texas. The balloons represent my childhood and fears that I’m letting go, simultaneously as my hopes and dreams are whispered in them and propelled into the sky. This place that I’m in is not the first, nor will it be my last. Like these balloons, which go by the direction of wind, I will go wherever life takes me.

Flower Power

I cannot begin to describe this outfit without first mentioning my mother. She is my idol, my fashion icon as well as my source of inspiration. When I think of her, I recall a quote by CoCo Chanel “Fashion comes and goes but style lasts forever”
This dress was worn by my mother in the 90’s. I am glad we have the same taste and body shape so I’m able to proudly wear her clothes. I visited Mongolia two years ago and my mother was generous enough to hand down some of her gems, including this classic dress. I will be showing more of her vintage clothing in my future posts.
When I was in high school, I used to borrow this very same dress from her. You can tell that even as a teenager, I had an eye for a classic style. The flower, which is actually a hair clip, gave this outfit a new look by adding a fun, flirty vibe. These cute flowers serve as a colorful accessory when you want to put a bright spin on your outfit.

How to rock over-the-knee socks

This school uniform inspired look became my absolute favorite trend this season. I’ve been loving this skirt over a dress thing so much that every other outfit I put together is with skirt and dress. Over the knee socks are my newfound go to accessory to keep me warm during the cold days. There are many different ways to rock over the knee socks. You can combine them with miniskirts, different styles of dresses and oversized sweaters. Oversized sweaters are very popular and appropriate if you are going for more laid back look. As far as shoes, anything will look cute with these type of socks. Oxfords, flats, ankle booties are just one of many options.

Flat out fabulous

I like to wear heels but I love to wear flats. Because I work in an office environment, I typically wear heels to work every day. Flats are practical and comfortable, they are a perfect footwear choice for weekends or while I am out running errands. Flats work great for those occasions when I want to wear a fancy dress but don’t want to look too dressy. I wear flats to dress it down. Personally, I think that the look of the flats depends on its quality. The higher the quality, the better it looks. Well-made flats are a bit pricey but they are well worth it. They are typically much more comfortable and durable. Pointy flats show the legs in full length, therefore they are the best choice to elongate your figure. I threw in the ultimate chic factor, a French beret to top of this look. This is without a doubt the most iconic emblem of the French style. With classy and effortless touch, J crew black and white flats complete my look. It’s flat out fabulous!
